Q: Do you need to prepare a new fan clutch in any way before installation?

Finally, check that the new O-ring or gasket is intact, ensure the mounting surface is clean and flat, and then install it using the torque specified in the service manual.
Q: Is the center nut/bolt of the fan clutch standard (right-hand) or reverse (left-hand) thread?
A: This is a very important safety note. To prevent the fan from loosening itself during rotation, the retaining nut for the fan clutch on many vehicles (though not all) uses a reverse (left-hand) thread. This means to loosen this nut, you must turn it clockwise – opposite to the usual "counter-clockwise to loosen" direction. Always consult the specific vehicle's service information to confirm the thread direction before proceeding.
